| Sanaa Art Promotions (SAP) is an organisation of artists, researchers, social scientists and communication specialists active in the use of arts to promote socio-economic development within East African communities. Founded in 1985 under Kenya’s Non Governmental Organisation Act, SAP visual and theatre arts for communication through Participatory Interactive Media Model (PIMM) to advocate for behaviour change primarily among the youth and, secondarily, through the ripple effect, the community.

SAP nurtures an environment of dialogue with the Government, its development partners, other NGOs and communities in developing and implementing policies, laws and social frameworks that promote behaviour change
Sanaa Art Promotions strives to be: Key contributor to ensure that community has sufficient innovative resources for interventions; Key player in reducing spread of diseases, alleviation of poverty and empowerment of individuals and community in appropriate knowledge and technology; Responsible leader in originating, packaging, disseminating and exchanging information ICE materials using participatory outreaches that employ multi dimensional communication strategies; Instrumental in innovative BCCI and advocacy
technology through PIMM out reaches; and
HIV/AIDS and health, education, governance, gender equity, corruption, environment degradation, family planning and equality of all peoples. ^ Top PIMM allows groups and communities discover their own resources and innovate strategies to face socio-economic challenges from their own perspectives. The program involves the implementation of interactive media processes - discussion forums, performing and fine art outreaches among communities.
About 2,500 schools are involved in the program initially expected to run for two years in Nairobi, Eastern, Coast and Central provinces.
• In collaboration with the Norwegian Church Aid, SAP initiated the first HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in south Sudan. • We have implemented environmental conservation intervention programmes for the Kenya Energy and Conservation Organisation (KENGO) and HIV/AIDS intervention projects for AMREF, USAID, Family Health International and Programme for Appropriate Technology in Kenya (PATH) in their AIDSCAP and IMPACT projects. • Impact project: 1999- 2001 use of
murals partnering with other organisations. • Gesp Project: 2001- 2002 in Meru funded by CIDA. It targeted community and school youth and focused on intervention on gender violence; and • Civic Education: 2001 – 2002 intervention in Embu and Meru districts.
Capacity building in the use of visual and performing arts for community/ social change. Conceptualising, designing, pre-testing, production dissemination and evaluation of thematic Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials. Training of community trainers in peer education Use of participatory interactive media for community problem interventions and other interactive community mobilization activities. Graphic design and printing. Designing and staging road shows, public displays and events for awareness. Based on our strong background and experience in Behaviour Change Communication through the use of interactive media, the organization can therefore: • Develop a formative research plan
to assess community needs • Undertake behavioural surveillance and sentinel surveys • Disseminate lessons learned upon project completion ^ Top
